President Paul Kagame participated in the Walk to Remember, held on the evening of April 7, 2025.
The walk concluded at BK Arena, where the Night of Remembrance took place. The President joined participants in lighting the Flame of Hope.
The walk began at the Gasabo District Office and brought together youth from various backgrounds, artists, social media influencers, journalists, football players, film actors, various leaders, and many others.
Although this walk was scheduled to take place last year, it was postponed due to rain. In the previous four years, it was not held because of the global Covid-19 pandemic.
April 7 marks the International Day of Reflection on the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
A census conducted by the Ministry of Local Government between 2000 and 2002 revealed that 1,074,017 Tutsi were killed during the 100 days between April 7 and July 1994. The report, published in 2004, details where the victims lived, their ages, names, and in some cases, the manner in which they were killed.
