The agreements were signed in Kigali on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, by Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Olivier Nduhungirehe, and his Senegalese counterpart, Cheikh Niang, during the first session of the Rwanda-Senegal Joint Cooperation Commission.

The two ministers led discussions on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across various sectors.

The agreements cover political consultations and exchanges, information and communication technology and innovation, tourism, youth, culture and arts, and sports.

The two countries also signed agreements on higher education and scientific research, as well as standards and quality assurance.

They further agreed to strengthen legal cooperation, including arrangements for extradition and the transfer of sentenced persons between the two countries.

The two countries have previously signed several agreements, including a cultural cooperation agreement in 1975, a general cooperation agreement in 2004, and an agreement establishing a permanent joint commission to oversee bilateral relations in 2016.

They also have a cooperation agreement between Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (RBA) and Senegal’s national broadcaster, Radio Télévision Sénégalaise.
