Nyanza Hospital Management Criticizes Doctors Who Participated in Genocide Against Tutsi

The management of Nyanza district hospital is condemning the doctors who played role in killing Tutsi during the genocide perpetrated against the Tutsi in 1994.

During the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the genocide against the Tutsi in 1994, the Director of Nyanza hospital, Dr. Samuel Nkundibiza, criticized the doctors who played role in killing Tutsi during the genocide perpetrated against the Tutsi in 1994.

“It’s deplorable that some doctors, despite the horror they witnessed, chose to harm lives instead of participating in saving them.”

Some survivors of the genocide against the Tutsi in 1994 also spoke of the history of Nyanza hospitals and how the hospital management acknowledged that some doctors during the genocide had malicious intent.

One survivor said, “There were those who refused to treat you, calling you a Tutsi, not realizing that we were working together.” Another survivor mentioned,

“It wasn’t easy during the genocide against the Tutsi in 1994 because there were doctors here at the hospital who were eager to harm you, questioning your ethnicity and neglecting their duty to save lives.”

Jean Christian Nsabimana, Nyanza district official in charge of public works who was the main speaker during this 30th commemoration of the genocide against the Tutsi in 1994, urged medical staff to prioritize humanity in their work.

“Doctors should provide quality services, unlike those with malicious intent who harmed the Tutsi.”

In Nyanza district hospital, it was reported that about 35 staff members were killed during the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.
