Uganda: Masaka Woman Arrested for Allegedly Forcing Infant to Ingest Feces and Urine

Police in Greater Masaka have detained a 34-year-old woman on charges of torturing a 10-month-old boy left in her care. The incident, reported under reference number 71/01/11/2024, has caused public outrage after disturbing video footage surfaced on social media. (Freeman News UG) reports. 

According to a police statement, the child, identified as David Yolam Ssemakula, was left with the suspect, Stella Namawanjje, by his mother, Oliver Mbabazi, who lives in Binyonyi A Cell, Nyendo-Mukungwe Division. The mother, 28, reportedly entrusted her son to Namawanjje while she was away for two days.

The report alleges that Namawanjje fed the infant feces and urine, recording the abuse on her mobile phone. The footage was later shared online after one of Namawanjje’s friends gained access to her phone and posted it, according to SP Kasirye, Police Spokesperson for Greater Masaka.

Police were first alerted by AIP Auma Eunice, an officer with the Child and Family Protection Unit at Nyendo. Following an investigation, law enforcement officials arrested Namawanjje and recovered the phone used in the recording.

SP Kasirye confirmed that a case file has been opened and stressed the gravity of the situation. “We are treating this matter with the utmost seriousness and are committed to ensuring justice for the young victim,” he stated.

As inquiries continue, authorities have urged the public to report any cases of child abuse to aid in preventing similar incidents.
