Rwanda Sets 2025/2026 Academic Calendar

The Ministry of Education (MINEDUC) has announced the academic calendar for the 2025/2026 school year, with classes set to begin on September 8, 2025, for both primary and secondary schools.

According to the schedule released on Monday, September 25, the first term will run from September 8 to December 19, 2025. Students will then take a two-week break before resuming the second term on January 5, 2026, which will close on April 3, 2026.

The third term will begin on April 20, 2026, and end on July 3, 2026, after which students will have a two-month holiday.

Practical examinations for technical and vocational schools, teacher training colleges, and accounting schools are scheduled for June 1–19, 2026.

National primary leaving exams will be held from July 7 to August 9, 2026, while secondary leaving exams will run from August 15 to August 24, 2026.

MINEDUC also confirmed adjustments in Kigali due to the UCI Road World Championships, with schools in the city closing during the event.

From September 21–28, 2025, classes in Kigali will be suspended, and both public and private employees are encouraged to work from home.
