President Paul Kagame has held talks with the Chairperson of the University of Rwanda (UR) Board of Governors, Dr. Pradeep K. Khosla, on strengthening the university’s role in education, research and innovation.
The meeting, held at Village Urugwiro on July 30, 2026, also brought together UR Board Vice Chairperson Ivan Murenzi, according to the Office of the President.
Discussions focused on the university’s strategic direction and efforts to improve the quality of education, expand research capacity and promote innovation through skills development that supports Rwanda’s social and economic transformation.
The meeting comes as Rwanda continues to prioritise a knowledge-based economy, with universities expected to play a key role in producing skilled graduates, advancing research and developing solutions to national challenges.
Established in 2013, the University of Rwanda is the country’s largest public university, with a mandate to provide quality higher education, conduct research and develop professionals capable of contributing to national development.
Rwanda’s development agenda places strong emphasis on digital skills and technology. Under the country’s five-year development programme, all citizens are expected to acquire digital literacy by 2029, while one million people are targeted for training in coding and related technology skills.
