Kigali to Host Inaugural Africa Energy Expo, Gathering Key Energy Sector Leaders

KIGALI, Rwanda – Key decision-makers and stakeholders in Africa’s energy sector are set to converge in Kigali for the inaugural Africa Energy Expo (AEE), scheduled to take place from November 4 to 6, 2024, at the Kigali Convention Centre. Organized by Informa Markets, the expo will focus on closing the continent’s energy and infrastructure gap, supporting the Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7) for affordable and clean energy, and advancing the Africa Power Vision.

Over 150 exhibitors from various segments of Africa’s expanding energy industry will be featured at the event, including representatives from renewable and clean energy, transmission, distribution, energy management, and innovative smart solutions. Notable participants include Tanesco, ONEE Morocco, EgenCo Malawi, and the Transmission Company of Nigeria, among others.

Ade Yesufu, Exhibition Director for Informa Markets, highlighted the significance of the expo, noting that “the Africa Energy Expo represents a milestone for Africa’s energy sector,” and a crucial opportunity for leaders and investors to foster collaboration on Africa’s energy future. Rwanda’s Ministry of Infrastructure has endorsed the event, which is expected to become a significant platform for African energy advancements.

The expo’s highlights include a three-day Leadership Summit, themed “Investments, Integration, Infrastructure, and Governance to Fuel the Energy Transition.” Panel discussions will cover key topics such as universal electrification, policy frameworks for an African Single Electricity Market, and innovative financing and technology solutions to promote rural electrification.

Distinguished speakers are set to include Rwanda’s Minister of Infrastructure, Dr. Jimmy Gasore, and energy leaders such as Namibia’s Minister of Energy Tom Alweendo, and Ernest Sipho Mkhonta of the Eswatini Electricity Company. The summit will also explore the role of green hydrogen, carbon markets, and gas-to-power infrastructure in supporting Africa’s transition to a low-carbon future.
