Journalist Kassim Yussuf of Radio Rwanda Passes Away

Journalist Kassim Yussuf, who worked for the Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (RBA), particularly at Radio Rwanda in various programs including French-language news, has passed away after a period of illness.

He became widely known in 1998 when he replaced Murebwayire Agnes on the entertainment show Samedi Détente on Radio Rwanda.

Since then, he continued to work at Radio Rwanda in French news, although he also contributed to other types of programs such as sports and entertainment.

News of his passing emerged on the morning of Monday, August 25, 2025. He had been ill for several days prior.

Several journalists expressed sadness over his death and offered condolences to his surviving family.

RBA journalist Kayishema Thierry said:
“Rest in peace, elder Kassim Yussuf ‘KAYUS,’ a wonderful journalist at Radio Rwanda since we were young…excellent French news, sports, entertainment (Samedi Détente).”

RadioTV10 journalist Mutuyeyezu Oswald, known as Oswakim, also said:
“Kassim Yussuf, whom we loved on the show Samedi Détente, has passed away (RBA)…may God welcome him into His kingdom.”

His burial is scheduled for Monday at 3:00 PM at Nyamirambo Cemetery.
