Kenya: K24 journalist shot while covering anti-government protests in Nakuru CBD

K24 journalist Catherine Wanjeri Kariuki suffered a gunshot wound while covering anti-government protests in the Nakuru Central Business District (CBD) on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.
Wanjeri was shot while standing outside a local bank in the company of fellow journalists and other members of the public.
According to media reports, another journalist in Wanjeri’s company also suffered gunshot wounds.

In a video seen by now.co.ke, Wanjeri could be seen lying on the ground, writhing in pain as she held onto her thigh.
The two journalists were rushed to Valley Hospital by fellow media practitioners where they are currently undergoing treatment.
The shooting incidents occurred at the back of increased security patrol by police officers in the city aimed at dispersing protestors and preventing the destruction of critical infrastructure.
