Angola Crowned AfroBasket Champions for Record 12th Time

Luanda, August 25, 2025 – Angola has reclaimed its place at the top of African basketball after defeating Mali 70–43 to win the 2025 AfroBasket title on home soil.

The final, held at the Pavilhão Multiusos de Luanda on Sunday evening, saw Angola dominate from start to finish, securing their first continental crown since 2013. President João Lourenço personally presented the trophy to the triumphant squad.

Angola controlled every quarter of the game, edging Mali 14–10 in the first, 18–10 in the second, 19–11 in the third, and sealing the victory with a 19–12 final quarter. The hosts completed the tournament unbeaten, winning all six of their matches.

Childe Dundao led Angola with 16 points in the final, while Mali’s Siriman Kanoute scored 14. Dundao was later named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament.

This victory marks Angola’s 12th AfroBasket championship, extending their record as the most successful nation in African basketball. Their last title came in Côte d’Ivoire in 2013, when they beat Egypt 57–40.

Earlier on Sunday, Senegal secured third place after defeating Cameroon 98–72, earning bronze for the third consecutive time (2017, 2021, and 2025).

• Top Scorer: Brancou Badio (Senegal), with 139 points and a tournament-best 25 three-pointers
• Best Rebounder: Alioun Diarra (Mali), with 60 rebounds
