India deploys 160 police officers to the DRC

By The Inspirer.

India has deployed 160 police officers as part of the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

The officers, who are part of the Border Security Force (BSF), were sent on June 4, 2025, following a farewell ceremony held on June 2, led by the force’s director, Daljit Singh Chawdhary.

Daljit expressed confidence that the officers would perform their duties well, just as the BSF has effectively protected India’s borders—particularly referencing their role in “Operation Sindoor,” a recent military operation against Pakistani forces that took place from April to May 2025.

This is the 18th BSF contingent to be deployed to eastern DRC and is led by Kailash Singh Mehta. According to the BSF spokesperson, the unit will be stationed in the city of Beni in North Kivu Province.

“They are going to replace the 17th BSF contingent operating in Beni, which is scheduled to return on June 4,” the spokesperson added.

Before their deployment, the officers underwent an 11-week training program covering MONUSCO protocols, the core responsibilities of their mission, human rights, and the protection of civilians.

MONUSCO currently operates with over 10,000 troops from more than 50 countries and more than 2,000 police officers from over 20 nations. The mission is primarily active in the provinces of North Kivu and Ituri.
