IMRO-Rwanda Holds Validation Workshop for ACERWC’s Recommendations Assessment Report on SRHR

Kigali, May 5, 2024 – Ihorere Munyarwanda Organization (IMRO-Rwanda) hosted a one-day validation workshop to review the assessment report on the implementation of the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child’s (ACERWC) recommendations to Rwanda concerning Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).

The workshop, held in Kigali, gathered 30 stakeholders, including government representatives, Civil Society Organizations, and children’s rights advocates.

The report assesses Rwanda’s adherence to the recommendations provided by ACERWC, an authoritative body overseeing the implementation of the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child across member states.

Rwanda signed the African Charter in 2004 and has since been reporting on its implementation, including the fourth and fifth periodic reports for the period of 2015-2018. The current report, discussed at the workshop, covers the period from 2019 to 2022.

The primary objective of the workshop was to gather feedback, inputs, and insights from key stakeholders to enrich and finalize the assessment report. Specific goals included presenting the findings of the report, refining it based on stakeholder feedback, validating the findings through collaborative input, and facilitating discussions to address any discrepancies or concerns.

The expected outcomes of the workshop were to gather stakeholder feedback for refining and finalizing the assessment report and to identify actionable recommendations to enhance the implementation of ACERWC’s recommendations.

The ultimate aim is to improve Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights in Rwanda.

IMRO-Rwanda’s initiative highlights the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing child rights and welfare issues.

The workshop provided a crucial platform for stakeholders to contribute to the ongoing efforts to ensure the effective implementation of SRHR recommendations in Rwanda.
