Kagame Nears Landslide Victory with 99% in Partial Election Results
By The Inspirer.
As vote counting continues in Rwanda’s presidential election, incumbent Paul Kagame appears poised for a resounding win.
With over 7 million votes counted, Kagame has secured an astonishing 99.15% of the vote, leaving his opponents far behind.
On Monday, July 15, the National Electoral Commission (NEC) reported a remarkable 98% voter turnout, highlighting the election’s significance to Rwandans.
Kagame’s closest rival, Frank Habineza of the Democratic Green Party, has garnered only 0.53% of the vote, while independent candidate Philippe Mpayimana trails with 0.32%.
Although final results are not expected until July 27, the current numbers indicate Kagame’s victory is all but assured. This landslide, if confirmed, would grant Kagame a third five-year term, solidifying his status as Rwanda’s dominant political figure.
Leading the RPF-Inkotanyi coalition, Kagame’s campaign has emphasized stability and development.
NEC Chairperson Oda Gasinzigwa affirmed that the electoral process was conducted in a secure and transparent manner for both Rwandans living abroad and those at home.
“So far, the votes that have been tallied in the presidential election are 78.94%, and these are the partial results,” Gasinzigwa announced.
NEC is set to announce provisional results by July 20 and final results by July 27.
