Rwanda represented at Central African Republic presidential inauguration

Prime Minister Dr. Justin Nsengiyumva represented President Paul Kagame at the inauguration of Faustin-Archange Touadéra in Bangui, following his re-election for a third term as President of the Central African Republic (CAR).

Touadéra, 68, won the December 2025 elections with 76.15% of the vote, defeating former Prime Minister Anicet Georges Dologuélé (14.66%) and Henri Marie Dondra (3.19%). He has pledged to promote peace, economic growth, infrastructure development, anti-corruption, and improved public services. The 2023 constitutional amendment extended presidential terms from five to seven years, allowing Touadéra to continue in office until 2033.

Rwanda and CAR maintain strong bilateral ties, particularly in security and peacekeeping. Rwandan military and police forces have contributed to UN peacekeeping operations (MINUSCA) since 2014, protecting Bangui, other strategic areas, and high-level officials while engaging closely with local communities.

Beyond UN missions, Rwanda and CAR have signed defense agreements, enabling Rwandan troops to support CAR directly against armed groups and restore stability. The partnership is regarded as a model of African cooperation, demonstrating effective regional collaboration for security and sustainable development.

Both countries are also working to expand ties in trade, investment, finance, culture, and knowledge exchange, reinforcing their long-standing partnership.
