Kirehe Race’ Cycling Competition Set for its Third Edition

In collaboration with the Rwanda Cycling Federation (FERWACY), Kirehe District is set to once again host the ‘Kirehe Race’ cycling competition for the third time. The event will take place over two days, just as it did last year.

The first day will be held on Saturday, October 19, followed by the second day on Sunday, October 20, 2024.

The race will feature participants from three categories: boys and girls under 19 years of age, those under 23, and senior cyclists. They will start from various locations.

On Saturday, October 19, at 1:00 p.m., men and the under-23 category will set off from Kigali City at BK Arena. They will pass through Kigali Parents School and follow the Kigali-Rwamagana-Kayonza-Ngoma road, finishing in Kirehe after covering a distance of 135 kilometers.

Boys under 19 and senior women will start from Rwamagana District and head towards Kirehe, covering a distance of 85 kilometers.

Additionally, on that same day at 1:00 p.m., the under-19 girls will start from Kayonza District and head to Kirehe, covering 69 kilometers.

On the second day, Sunday, October 20, the race will begin with amateur cyclists riding regular bikes around Nyakarambi Town starting at 8:00 a.m. for a distance of 11.7 kilometers.

At 9:00 a.m., the under-19 girls will race around Nyakarambi Town five times, covering a total distance of 19.5 kilometers.

The under-19 boys and senior women will also race around Nyakarambi Town eight times, covering a distance of 31.2 kilometers. The men and the under-23 category will start from Kirehe District and head to the Rusumo border, then return to ride around the town five times, covering a distance of 69.5 kilometers.

During the inaugural event in 2022, the men’s race was won by Eric Manizabayo ‘Karadiyo’, while the women’s title went to Valentine Nzayisenga.

In 2023, the men’s race was won by Didier Munyaneza ‘Mbappé’, while the women’s title was claimed by Diane Ingabire.
