21 vulnerable single mothers graduate in tailoring

At least 21 out of trained 30 single mothers from Kamonyi district have received their certificates in tailoring through the TUNGA MUDOZI project initiated and implemented by Relief for Single Mothers Organization (RSMO) that runs its activities in Kamonyi district, with the collaboration of the district and funding support of Save the Children.

Other partners of this project include Good Neighbors, FXB Rwanda, CEFAPEK, RWAMUREC, ELIM, Dream Village, Kivu Heritance Coffee, Kumwe Hub and Kwanda Initiative.

The event has taken place on Friday, May 26, 2023, in Kamonyi youth center, gathering together various guests, youth and parents.

Speaking during the event, Marie Umurerwa, an official from Kamonyi district in charge of gender promotion lauded the efforts by RSMO to initiate and implement such a project to help the government fast track its development agenda that promotes a woman.

Mr. Heritier UKWISHAKA, Legal Representative of RSMO said that they have thought of the needy categories of people who can benefit from RSMO activities and single mothers are the main project beneficiaries.

“In our long-term vision, we aim at fostering the income generating capacities of single mothers and vocational education is one of the key accelerators of the development through entrepreneurship. This is the first cohort of beneficiaries, and we plan to train more single mothers not only in this district, but also in other areas of the country following funds availability,” UKWISHAKA said.

“Fostering the skills capacity that help teen girls/mothers to generate income through employment is what we dreamt, we also enable them to access information of Sexual Reproductive health Rights needs to ensure they are not lured into further trapes of unprotected sex, leading to early pregnancies, the skills they have acquired will help them to be dependent and to thrive in their future,” He added.

Relief for Single Mothers Organization (RSMO) is a Non-Governmental Organization that Founded in 2021 with the mandate to foster the income generating capacities of single mothers.

The organization started to implement a program entitled “Fostering the income generating capacities of Single Mothers Center and employment.” in Kamonyi Districts, with plans to expand the program to other Districts in Rwanda.
