Witch Doctor Salongo Arrested

The Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) has confirmed the detention of Rurangirwa Wilson, popularly known as witch doctor Salongo, who is under investigation for various crimes.

According to RIB, Salongo was apprehended on October 31, 2024. The charges he faces include fraud, forgery, altering or using falsified documents, impersonating a licensed professional, and money laundering.

RIB spokesperson Dr. Murangira B. Thierry stated that Salongo was arrested following an investigation triggered by multiple complaints. He explained, “He was detained after an investigation based on allegations from different people whom he promised he could retrieve stolen items and cure various illnesses through his extraordinary powers as a witch doctor.”

The spokesperson added that Salongo allegedly promised clients he could remove curses and even grant fertility.

“What’s unfortunate is that Salongo was widely promoted on social media as an extraordinary healer,” he continued.

RIB reported that at the time of his arrest, Salongo was found with animal hides, various bottles containing substances he called medicine, eggs, and pots.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities prepare his case for submission to the Prosecution. Salongo is currently detained at the Nyamata RIB Station, where he resides in Bugesera District, Nyamata Sector, Nyamata City Cell, Rugarama II Village.
