Rwanda Girls Initiative showcases innovative agricultural products

Girls-students from Gashora Girls Academy are showcasing their innovative produce from agricultural yields such as peanuts, and juice. They are present in the 14^th Agrishow 2019 at Mulindi agricultural exhibition ground since June 19^th 2019.

The students are involved in own crop production as well as value added projects such as dried fruit, fruit juice, sports drinks and many, many more.

Under their initiative ‘Rwanda Girls Initiative’ (RGI) they did market research including taste of various peanut butter recipes, developed a cash plan, and a production strategy.

Gashora Gold peanut butter is now marketed in Kigali’s “best” hotels, and continues to be managed by the student lead club.

They have a technology to mix dried groundnuts with honey and this product is among what they have brought to clients during the agrishow.

Their headquarters are in Bugesera District in Eastern Province.

Madame Colette Musabyimana, the in charge of marketing at RGI Ltd told The Inspirer that people are very attracted by their products because of the speciality they are made with.

“Our big market is Gashora Girls Academy school because they are the key beneficiaries of the project, our peanuts are sold in Simba Super Market, in Hotels like Get It, Marriot Hotel, etc. we were surprised to see many people coming to our stand with much curiosity to know more about our products,” Musabyimana noted.

She said they expect expand the market as their products are certified by Rwanda Standards Board (RSB) with Standardization Mark (S-Mark).

She said that they also grow bananas, small and big livestock. The RGI is made of 320 girls and they thank American people who sponsor their activities and enable them to produce quality products within the international scheme.

They also thank Madame Jeannette Kagame who always supports their project and their education as girls-students in this school.

The 14^th Rwanda Agrishow at Mulindi started on June 19^th to end on June 26^th 2019 and is attracting many people countrywide who visit, learn and buy the products.
