Rusizi: Husband Fatally Strikes Wife with an Axe

In the Bweyeye Sector of Rusizi District, a tragic incident unfolded as a man fatally struck his wife in the head with an axe while she was cutting a tree for firewood in their forest.

The appalling incident took place in Kiyabo Village, Bweyeye Sector, at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 8, 2024.

Daniel Ndamyimana, the Executive Secretary of Bweyeye Sector, disclosed to IGIHE that the couple had been married for about two years and had experienced conflicts, though they had not sought assistance from local authorities.

Ndamyimana recounted, “This morning, as the wife was gathering firewood, her husband assaulted her with an axe, resulting in her immediate demise.”

He further noted that despite previous attempts at mediation to address their ongoing disputes, the family’s conflicts persisted, and efforts by local authorities to counsel them proved futile.
