RPF-Inkotanyi Coalition Secures 62% in Parliamentary Elections

RPF-Inkotanyi-led coalition has claimed a decisive victory in Rwanda’s parliamentary general elections, according to partial results released by the National Electoral Commission (NEC) early Wednesday.

With 96.73% of the votes tallied by Tuesday evening, the coalition led by the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) and its allied parties garnered 62.67% of the vote, NEC Chairperson Oda Gasinzigwa announced.

This commanding lead could translate to at least 33 of the 53 seats elected through direct adult suffrage in the Chamber of Deputies. The lower chamber of Parliament comprises 80 legislators, with the remaining 27 seats filled through electoral colleges representing women, youth, and people with disabilities.

The coalition includes several parties: the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda, the Liberal Party (PL), the Social Democratic Party (PSD), the Ideal Democratic Party (PDI), PS-Imberakuri, the Democratic Union of the Rwandan People (UDPR), the Party for Progress and Concord (PPC), the Rwandan Socialist Party (PSR), and the Christian Democratic Party (PDC).

The announcement follows the preliminary results of the presidential elections, in which incumbent President Paul Kagame of the RPF led with over 99% of the vote.
