Rayon Sports Defeats Kiyovu Sports Again in the League

Rayon Sports defeated Kiyovu Sports with a 4-0 victory in the eighth round of the league, ending nearly five years without a win over Kiyovu Sports in the championship. The match took place on Saturday evening, November 2, 2024, at Kigali Pele Stadium.

The game started with high intensity from both teams, with the ball moving quickly from one goal to the other. Rayon Sports created the first opportunity when Serumogo Ali passed to Madjaliwa, who sent the ball into the penalty area, but Guy Kazindu cleared it. In the 11th minute, Kiyovu Sports missed a goal after a long ball from Nzeyurwanda Djihad reached forward Mosengwo Tansele, who found himself one-on-one with goalkeeper Khadim Ndiaye. Tansele attempted a header, but Ndiaye saved it.

By the 15th minute, Rayon Sports was playing well and missed another chance. Muhire Kevin advanced the ball, connecting with Ndayishimiye Richard, who passed it to Serumogo Ali. Ali sent the ball into the penalty area, where Fall headed it to Iraguha Hadji, who narrowly missed the target.

Up until the 20th minute, Rayon Sports slowed their pace, and much of the play took place in the midfield. At the 26th minute, Kiyovu Sports made a substitution, bringing on Ishimwe Kevin for Gakuru Matata. In the 28th minute, Kiyovu Sports had a close chance from a well-taken free kick by Hakizimana Felicien, which goalkeeper Ndiaye parried away. Although Kiyovu attempted again, Rayon Sports’ defense held strong.

In the 30th minute, Kiyovu Sports scored through Masengo, but referee Didier ruled it offside. By the 35th minute, Kiyovu Sports was dominating, pressuring Rayon Sports’ goal. In the 37th minute, Kiyovu missed another opportunity when Cherif Bayo played with Djuma but couldn’t score. Just before halftime, Bugingo Hakim lost the ball to Cherif Bayo, who set up Desire. Desire faced goalkeeper Khadime Ndiaye one-on-one but failed to score, thanks to Ndiaye’s save. The first half ended goalless.

In the second half, Rayon Sports made substitutions, with Adama Bagayogo replacing Elanga Jr. and Omborenga Fitina replacing Serumogo Ali. Kiyovu Sports continued to press, and in the 48th minute, Cherif Bayo attempted a powerful shot, but Ndiaye made another great save.

In the 57th minute, Rayon Sports opened the scoring through Iraguha Hadji, who skillfully bypassed Kiyovu’s midfielders and struck a shot with his right foot, beating goalkeeper Djihad. After scoring, Rayon Sports intensified their attacks. Muhire Kevin tried to score again, but Kiyovu’s defense intervened.

In the 66th minute, Rayon Sports missed a close opportunity when Fall Ngagne received the ball unmarked in front of the goal but was denied by Nzeyurwanda, who cleared the shot. Rayon Sports continued to dominate, scoring a second goal when Adama Bagayogo gained possession in the midfield and fired a strong shot. Djihad managed to block it, but Hadji Iraguha pounced and scored.

Just two minutes later, Rayon Sports scored a third goal through Fall Ngagne, exploiting a defensive lapse by Kiyovu. In the 80th minute, Rayon nearly scored a fourth goal when Hadji Iraguha’s long-range shot hit the crossbar. In the 89th minute, Adama Bagayogo missed another opportunity, shooting wide from inside the box.

In stoppage time, the referee added four minutes. At 90+4, Kiyovu missed a consolation goal when Mosengwo Tansele failed to capitalize on a mistake by defender Aimable. Finally, in the 90+5 minute, Adama Bagayogo scored a fourth goal with a shot deflected by a Kiyovu defender into the net.

The match ended with Rayon Sports securing a 4-0 win over Kiyovu Sports, moving to second place in the league with 14 points. This victory ended their five-year winless streak against Kiyovu Sports in the league.

In other matches of the day, Amagaju defeated Vision FC 3-1, Bugesera FC drew with Musanze FC 1-1, and Police FC won against Rutsiro FC with a 3-2 score.
