President Kagame meets The Wood Foundation leadership to strengthen agriculture and health cooperation

President Paul Kagame on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, received Garreth Wood, Chairman of The Wood Foundation, and David Knoop, the organisation’s Africa Managing Director, for discussions focused on strengthening ongoing cooperation between Rwanda and the foundation.

According to the Office of the President, the talks focused on long-standing collaboration, particularly in agricultural investment and the development of Rwanda’s tea sector.

The Wood Foundation has played a significant role in supporting tea farming in Rwanda through partnerships with smallholder farmers, improving production systems, increasing yields, and promoting value addition aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of Rwandan tea on the international market.

The partnership is also designed to improve the livelihoods of tea farmers by increasing productivity and boosting household incomes within farming communities.

Beyond agriculture, President Kagame and the delegation also discussed the work of Kids Operating Room, an international organisation co-founded by Garreth Wood and Nicola Wood.

The organisation focuses on expanding access to safe paediatric surgical care, particularly in countries with limited healthcare infrastructure.

It works with hospitals in several countries, including Rwanda, by providing modern surgical equipment and supporting the training of medical personnel, with the aim of strengthening paediatric surgical services and improving healthcare outcomes for children.
