Kigali, Rwanda — On November 6, President Paul Kagame extended his congratulations to President-elect Donald Trump on his victory in the 2024 United States presidential election. Kagame expressed his well wishes on behalf of the Rwandan government and its citizens, highlighting the importance of the relationship between the two nations.
“President-elect Donald Trump, I warmly congratulate you on behalf of the Government and people of Rwanda for your historic and decisive election as the 47th President of the United States,” President Kagame shared via a statement on social media.
Kagame commended Trump’s vision for the U.S. as a “partner of choice,” emphasizing an approach of collaboration and mutual respect over imposition. “Your clear message has been that the United States should be a partner of choice that attracts by the force of its example, rather than by imposing its views and ways of life on others. I therefore look forward to working with you for the common benefit of both our countries in the years ahead,” Kagame added.
Trump previously served as the 45th President of the United States from January 2017 to January 2021. With this recent election, he is set to lead the country once again for a four-year term, marking a return to the White House.
Rwanda and the United States share a history of diplomatic relations dating back to 1962, a relationship that the Embassy of Rwanda in Washington, D.C., has supported for over six decades. Both countries have collaborated in areas of economic development, security, and public health, among others.
The statement underlines Rwanda’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the United States, with Kagame expressing optimism for future cooperation under Trump’s leadership.
