Nyabihu: Village Leader Killed, Mutilated

Eric Mugabarigira, the leader of Jari Village in Nyarutembe Cell, Rugera Sector, Nyabihu District, met a tragic end at the hands of criminals who brutally mutilated him.

Authorities have arrested three individuals suspected of involvement in this heinous crime.

Reports indicate that news of Mugabarigira’s demise surfaced on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, prompting law enforcement agencies to launch a swift investigation to apprehend those responsible.

Sources say that prior to his untimely death, Mugabarigira had been socializing with friends at a bar in the Shyira sector. His lifeless body was later discovered, bearing signs of torture and severe injuries, adding a layer of suspicion to the circumstances surrounding his demise.

Marcel Ndandu, the Executive Secretary of Shyira Sector, relayed information provided by a concerned resident who stumbled upon the grisly scene during their morning walk.

“The body was found by a resident walking in the morning in Mukaka Village, Mpinga Cell, in Shyira Sector. Upon identifying three individuals, including one hailing from the same sector as the deceased, the proprietor of the bar where they had been imbibing, and a companion, they were promptly apprehended. They have since been detained for interrogation, and the investigation remains ongoing.” Ndandu stated.

Ndandu implores the community to report conflicts promptly to facilitate early intervention and crime prevention.
Eyewitnesses who gathered at the scene where Mugabarigira’s body was discovered attest to signs of torture, with numerous injuries evident, including the horrifying mutilation of his genitalia.

Eric Mugabarigira, aged 45, had assumed leadership of the village merely a month and a few days prior to this tragedy.

Following the discovery of Mugabarigira’s body, it was swiftly transported to Shyira Hospital for a postmortem examination, while authorities wasted no time in initiating investigations into the suspected perpetrators.
