No survivors expected after air ambulance crash in Northeast Philadelphia, claims 6 Lives

An air ambulance carrying six people, including a child returning to Mexico after life-saving treatment in the U.S., crashed on Friday evening near a mall in northeast Philadelphia. Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, the company operating the aircraft, confirmed that it is unlikely anyone survived the crash, which included four crew members, a pediatric patient, and the child’s escort.

The crash occurred around 6:30 p.m. near Roosevelt Mall, approximately three miles from Northeast Philadelphia Airport. While authorities are still confirming details, several dwellings and vehicles in the area were affected. Six individuals, injured in the incident, were taken to Temple University Hospital – Jeanes Campus. Three of the injured were reported to be in fair condition, while the others were treated and released.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Learjet 55 had departed from Northeast Philadelphia Airport en route to Springfield-Branson National Airport in Missouri. Among those on board were the pilot, co-pilot, physician, paramedic, the young patient, and the escort.

A spokesperson from Jet Rescue Air Ambulance said the child was a patient from Shriners Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia who had come to the U.S. for medical treatment and was traveling back home. The flight, funded by an international charity, was heading to Tijuana, Mexico. A representative from Shriners confirmed that the child’s mother was also on the plane.

Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs later confirmed that all six individuals on board were Mexican nationals and stated that consulates were prepared to assist the victims’ families.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation by the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). Experts speculated that something catastrophic likely occurred shortly after the aircraft took off.

The incident follows a recent aviation tragedy in the U.S., where 67 people lost their lives in a midair collision between a passenger plane and a Black Hawk military helicopter near Washington, D.C.
