By The Inspirer.
The National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) has reported a 6.8% increase in industrial output in August 2026 compared with the same month in 2025.

The monthly Industrial Production Index (IIP) report, released on October 4, 2026, shows that mining and quarrying output rose by 26%.

Manufacturing output increased by 4.8%, electricity generation grew by 17.6%, while output from water supply and waste management activities increased by 10.5% compared with the previous year.

The growth in industrial production was supported by higher output across several manufacturing subsectors. Food production increased by 7%, while the production of non-metallic construction materials, including glass, cement and tiles, rose by 10.4%. Production of metal products, including machinery and other equipment, grew by 10.8%.

NISR also reported a 3.2% decline in the production of beverages and tobacco, while output from wood products, paper and printing activities increased by 7.3%.

Rwanda has continued to promote industrial development. In 2006, the country launched its industrial parks programme as part of efforts to increase domestic production, starting with the Kigali Industrial Park. The Rwamagana Industrial Park was established later, in 2017.

More recently, Prime Minister Dr Justin Nsengiyumva officially inaugurated a factory in Musanze that will manufacture metal products, mainly construction materials.

The factory is expected to produce 250,000 tonnes annually, further boosting Rwanda’s industrial output.

In June 2026, NISR reported that Rwanda’s GDP reached Rwf6.346 trillion in the first quarter of 2026, up from Rwf5.276 trillion in the same period of 2025, representing 10% growth.

The industrial sector accounted for 24% of GDP during the quarter, with industrial output increasing by 13%.
