No one shies away from collaboration with RPF-aligned parties – Dr. Habineza

The President of the Democratic Green Party Rwanda, Hon Dr. Frank Habineza, underscored the readiness of his party to engage with other political parties aligned with the RPF-Inkotanyi in the forthcoming elections.

This stance reflects their confidence in making constructive contributions to the political dialogue.

This declaration came during a Congress held on Friday, March 29, 2024, bringing together leaders and members of the Democratic Green Party Rwanda from the Northern Province.

The Congress also marked the unveiling of the party’s Manifesto, which will guide their participation in the upcoming parliamentary elections slated for July this year.

Hon Dr. Frank Habineza expressed firmness in their approach to collaborating with RPF-supporting parties during elections, highlighting their commitment to unity and constructive engagement.

“We are not afraid of aligning with parties that support RPF-Inkotanyi,” he stated. “We participated in the 2017 and 2018 elections, so it’s no surprise that these parties are aligning with RPF-Inkotanyi. While they have more financial capacity than us, we are also rich in good ideas and well-positioned to continue contributing our ideas and seeing them implemented.”

As a result of their suggestions, significant achievements have been made, including the advocacy for community-based health insurance. Previously, individuals had to make contributions and wait for a month before accessing healthcare services. However, this has been addressed, allowing individuals to pay and receive treatment immediately.

Hon. Dr. Frank Habineza recalled his past electoral promises regarding education, particularly the pledge to provide free secondary education, a policy the government is considering positively due to improved access to education for children.

Hon. Dr. Frank Habineza recalls that during his campaign for the presidency in the elections, he promised to provide meals for school children. The government examined this proposal and deemed it beneficial, leading to the implementation of school feeding programs.

The Green Party Rwanda has also advocated for government workers who were receiving low wages, such as medical and healthcare providers, teachers, police officers, and soldiers. Presently, teachers are being prioritized for salary increases, with ongoing efforts to advocate for similar adjustments for university lecturers.

The party is also planning to ensure gender balance in its representation, aiming to include 30 men and 30 women who will serve as parliamentary candidates.

Moreover, Hon Dr. Frank Habineza reaffirmed his candidacy for the upcoming 2024 presidential elections while encouraging all political parties to maintain a focus on positive campaigning as the July elections approach.
