Mozambican President Daniel Chapo Visits Kigali Genocide Memorial

Mozambique’s President, Daniel Francisco Chapo, on Wednesday, August 27, paid tribute to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi at the Kigali Genocide Memorial.

He honored the memory of the victims and described Rwanda’s history as a testament to the resilience and courage of its people.

President Chapo is on a two-day state visit to Rwanda, which concludes on August 28, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.

In a message written in the memorial’s guest book, he stated: “This is a place of deep reflection and painful remembrance. We bow with utmost respect before the suffering you endured.”

He added: “Your history is a powerful reminder that humanity must never forget the consequences of division. At the same time, it is a beacon of hope and a testimony to the resilience of the Rwandan people.”

President Chapo emphasized that Rwanda’s hard-won peace serves as a profound lesson not only for Africa but for the world at large.

The Kigali Genocide Memorial is the final resting place for more than 250,000 victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, who were killed in different parts of the city.
