Lt Gen Kabandana Laid to Rest

Lt Gen Innocent Kabandana, a senior Rwanda Defence Force officer, was laid to rest on Friday, September 12, at Kanombe Military Cemetery. He died on September 7 at the age of 59.

The requiem mass at Regina Pacis Parish was attended by First Lady Jeannette Kagame, senior officials, and relatives. Family members thanked President Paul Kagame and the RDF for their support.

RDF Chief of Defence Staff Gen Mubarakh Muganga hailed Kabandana as a patriotic leader whose discipline, courage, and service strengthened the military and nation.

Kabandana fought in the liberation struggle, helped stop the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, and later held key military and diplomatic posts, including Defence Attaché in Washington, DC, Deputy Force Commander with UNMISS, and Commander of Special Forces. He also led Rwandan troops in Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado Province.

He is survived by his wife and four children.
