How AJPRODHO-JIJUKIRWA is supporting youth talent detection

Over 1,000 youth have so far participated in preliminary youth talent detection organized by AJPRODHO-JIJUKIRWA in the districts of Muhanga and Bugesera.

 AJPRODHO-JIJUKIRWA is one of the Non -Governmental Organizations working to improve the rights of disadvantaged youth and children in Rwanda through human rights promotion, protection, research, advocacy, economic empowerment and civil society strength.

 The ongoing competition, which started on December 9, 2020, is part of Enhancing Livelihoods for Youth (EL4Y) Project implemented by AJPRODHO-JIJUKIRWA in partnership with Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA).

 The project is funded by the European Union (EU) with the aim to contribute to the reduction of youth unemployment and increasing their access to decent work in Rwanda.

 The project operates in four districts, Bugesera, Kikukiro, Ngororero and Muhanga.

 One of the activities of the project is to organize talent detection competitions which will help youth to enroll in development opportunities.

 “The competition will help in determining the types of skills they have so that the potential beneficiaries can be engaged in TVET and facilitate them to form cooperatives and get start-up kits,” said Richard Kananga, The project manager.

 He said that in the first year, talent detection competitions were organised in Muhanga and Bugesera with youth aged between 16 to 30 years old.

 “They were mobilized to showcase talents so that they can be developed to marketable opportunities,” he noted.

He said the overall objective of the EL4Y Project is to contribute to the reduction of youth unemployment and increasing their access to decent work in Rwanda (SDGs 1, 5, 8).

 Specifically, by the end of the Action, 4000 vulnerable youth (16-30 years, 70% females) will have enhanced their livelihoods due to an increase in income of at least 60% and their control over resources.
