“Embezzlement Scandal in Musanze: Village Security Officer Accused of Stealing RWF 60 Million from Community Savings”

In a shocking revelation, residents of Mutaboneka Village, Kavumu Cell, Busogo Sector, Musanze District, are accusing their village security officer of embezzling RWF 63 million, funds intended for distribution among a group of 400 people.

According to the residents, the incident dates back to the year 2023, when the appointed leader allegedly misappropriated the money meant for the group’s collective sharing.  – Radio/TV1 has learned.

One resident shared, “We began planning this initiative in July, planning to conclude our group and distribute the funds in September. However, upon reaching September  we were informed that there would be no distribution due to an individual, the vice president, who had supposedly embezzled over RWF 4.5 million.”

Another resident expressed their frustration, stating, “We used to distribute funds seamlessly, but with these recent changes, we are not only losing our savings but also facing financial losses. I stand to lose RWF 678 thousand.”

The aggrieved residents point fingers at the village security officer, holding him responsible for the missing funds, and imply that the entire village might be implicated.

They claim that while the intended annual distribution was RWF 67 million, a significant portion, more than RWF 63 million remains unaccounted for.

Explaining the situation, one resident stated, “We had a total of RWF 67 million in the group. We have lost a substantial amount.”

Ndayambaje Karima Augustin, the Executive Secretary of Busogo Sector, responded to the situation, stating that efforts are underway to locate the security officer. “Once found, he will be brought to justice.” He said.

He commented, “There was a problem when this village security officer took his clothes and ran away with his wife. Currently, they are nowhere to be found, but whenever they resurface, they will be held accountable for misappropriating the community’s funds.”

The victims of this alleged embezzlement assert that the stolen money has resulted in significant financial hardship, adversely affecting their well-being.
