Farmers need to learn more about agriculture inputs-AGRIFOP

Farmers across the country are learning good agricultural practices in increasing the productivity and improving the quality of the yield, thanks to the 14^th Rwanda Agri-show to build a networking scheme that provides them with knowledge.

Pierre Claver Mutijima, a farmer from Kirehe District in Eastern province used to grow maize on 1 hectare but fail to have good produce due to lack of knowledge about how to use properly fertilizer.

He told The Inspirer that he learnt a lot from detailed information by AGRIFOP as he visits their stand in the ongoing Agrishow at Mulindi-Gasabo exhibition ground.

“I use to grow maize and use fertilizers but my knowledge on proper use was not advanced. Here I get the idea on what to improve next time,” He said.

Jean Bosco Safari, the chairman of Agribusiness Focus Partnership organization (AGRIFOP) said that their role in agriculture development is to teach farmers about better use of fertilizers through agro dealers.

“We teach agro dealers the best methodologies to teach farmers by giving them full information and explanations of the use of fertilizer and visit them in farmer field schools where their activities are done from. We wish that any agro dealer knows all the nutrients containing the fertilizer to be able to explain to farmers, we have support documents we give to agro dealers to help them deliver good explanations,” Safari said.

He also said that farmers about quality seeds and how they differ from traditional ones.
