Afrobeat Star Kitoko returns home after 12 years in the UK

Kigali, November 9, 2025 — Rwandan Afrobeat star Kitoko Bibarwa has returned home after spending 12 years living in the United Kingdom.

The popular artist, who once dominated Rwanda’s music scene, arrived at Kigali International Airport on the morning of Sunday, November 9, 2025, from London, where he had been residing since 2013.

Kitoko first left for the UK on March 29, 2013, to pursue university studies. Upon his arrival in Kigali, he said that after all those years abroad, he is ready to begin a new chapter of life back home.

“I missed the people; honestly, I also missed the food I couldn’t find abroad,” he said with a smile.

Explaining why he decided to return, Kitoko noted that Rwanda offers a fulfilling life despite the common belief that opportunities are better overseas.

“I came back because I know what brought me here. We go abroad to gain knowledge so that we can come and use it here,” he explained.

He emphasized that he is now settling permanently in Rwanda, adding that while he may still travel occasionally, his decision to live in his homeland is final.

Kitoko is set to perform alongside Nigerian superstar Davido at a concert scheduled for December 5, 2025, at BK Arena. He said he is excited to bring joy to his fans through both his classic hits and other favorite tracks.

Many journalists and fans welcomed Afrobeat star Kitoko Bibarwa upon his arrival at Kigali International Airport.

“I have no fear. It’ll actually be my first time performing inside BK Arena. I don’t have new songs, but I’ll bring happiness as an ‘old-school’ artist—people will enjoy it,” he said.

Jean d’Amour Kamayirese, Chairperson of the Rwanda Leather Association, who organized Kitoko’s welcome event, expressed joy at seeing his longtime friend return home.

“We met while campaigning for the Head of State and remained close friends. We’re happy to welcome him back—it’s something to celebrate,” Kamayirese said.

He added that as leather industry professionals, they plan to collaborate with Kitoko on future creative projects connected to their field.

During his stay in the UK, Kitoko earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from South Bank University, and later obtained a Master’s degree in Peace, Conflict, and Diplomacy from London Metropolitan University.
