President Kagame, Bill Gates discuss expanding partnership in health, agriculture and technology

President Paul Kagame on Monday, July 20, 2026, held talks with Bill Gates, the American entrepreneur and philanthropist who founded and chairs the Gates Foundation, focusing on strengthening cooperation in health, agriculture and technology-driven development.

The meeting, held in Kigali, centered on expanding the partnership between Rwanda and the Gates Foundation, with discussions focusing on accelerating progress in key areas that support the country’s development agenda.

According to Village Urugwiro, the talks covered healthcare advancement, modern agriculture, artificial intelligence (AI), and the development of digital infrastructure to improve public service delivery.

The discussions come as Rwanda continues to strengthen its collaboration with the Gates Foundation in various sectors, particularly health, where the foundation has supported initiatives aimed at improving access to quality services and promoting innovation in healthcare delivery.

During his visit to Rwanda, Gates has been exploring the country’s development progress, including its health systems, agricultural initiatives and technology-based solutions.

He visited health facilities and community health programmes in Rwamagana District, where he was briefed on the role of community health workers in delivering essential services to citizens.

Gates also visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial, where he paid tribute to victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and learned about Rwanda’s journey of recovery, unity and reconstruction over the past three decades.

The meeting between President Kagame and Bill Gates reaffirmed the commitment of both sides to continue working together in advancing sustainable development, innovation and improved livelihoods for communities.
