Club World Cup: Chelsea Halts PSG’s Winning Streak

English side Chelsea has won the FIFA Club World Cup after defeating France’s Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) 3–0, ending PSG’s impressive run of dominating every opponent in their path.

Two goals from Cole Palmer and another from João Pedro in the first 45 minutes secured the World Cup trophy for Chelsea, bringing it home to London.

The match, played on Sunday, July 13, 2025, started at a high pace, with both teams pushing to break the deadlock. PSG had early chances to score, but Désiré Doué squandered a clear opportunity by skying his shot.

Among the dignitaries who watched the match were former U.S. President Donald Trump and his wife Melania Trump, FIFA President Gianni Infantino and his wife, among others.

Key players for Chelsea included Cole Palmer—who netted twice—João Pedro, who sealed the third goal, Enzo Fernández, goalkeeper Robert Sanchez who kept Chelsea in the game, and Gianluigi Donnarumma, who was instrumental throughout.

After 90 minutes, the London club lifted the trophy with a 3–0 win, and manager Enzo Maresca was celebrated alongside his players.

PSG finished the match with 10 men after João Neves was sent off in the 85th minute for pulling Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella’s hair.

Cole Palmer was named the tournament’s best player, Désiré Doué won the award for the best young player, and Chelsea’s Robert Sanchez was awarded best goalkeeper.

Chelsea received a total of $125 million—$40 million for winning the final and $85 million accumulated through each knockout stage on their way to the title. The next edition of the tournament will be held in 2029.
