Kicukiro: New Campaign to boost Unity of Rwandans starts in schools

Officials of Gahanga sector initiated a new program to promote Unity of Rwandans through education of young children in schools.

The initiative has started with a campaign dubbed: “NTIRIBARA MUKURU” that has been introduced by Gahanga sector to help the new generation learn and do research on what can be done to build sustainable Unity and peace among Rwandans.

The initiative that has started in primary and secondary schools of Gahanga sector has been officially launched on October 21, 2022 at G.S Gahanga by the Sector Executive Secretary, Emmanuel Rutubuka and will be incorporated in all ten (10) schools.

“The program will be implemented through cultural concerts, where children will be inviting their parents and show them various art works including songs, poems and theaters with the message to promote Unity and peace among Rwandans. This will help some parents to make a step forward towards understanding and building peace, unity and reconciliation in our communities,” said Emmanuel Rutubuka, Gahanga Sector’s Executive Secretary.

Students who spoke to The Inspirer said that they will be ambassadors of peace everywhere they are, and will advocate for true values of Rwandans to avoid anything that can bring any segregation.

Doreen Umulisa, a student in Senior 2 at G.S Gahanga said that this initiative is very important for the young generation.

“Through this program, we managed to understand the history of Rwanda and we are very much committed to helping other children and parents in our communities to know and act towards building sustainable peace and Unity of Rwandans,” she said.

Nadine Ingabire, one of the parents whose children study at G.S Gahanga said: “We need to be closer to our children and have much time to talk to them, teaching them positive values instead of bad ideologies. This education will be indeed the catalyst for the real “Ndi Umunyarwanda” national reconciliation initiative,”

Valens Gakuru, Headteacher of Happy Kids Nursery and Primary School in Gahanga Sector said that this program will help to promote Rwandan values among youth, staring at early age.

“When children understand this concept, it will ease their conversation with parents as it not only made for kids, but for parents together. We do expect having the next generation without any kind of segregation, instead with positive values towards sustainable peace and Unity,” Gakuru noted.

This initiative will be conducted annually during the month dedicated to Unity of Rwandans.
