7th Urusaro International Women Film Festival to detect more talents in Rwanda

The 7^th Urusaro International Women Film Festival that is scheduled in Rwanda from October 4, 2022 until October 11, 2022 will detect more talents in film making among Rwanda’s women and girls.

The festival is currently organized by Ciné Femmes Rwanda and it will be physically held after sometime stuck due to COVID-19 pandemic.

The Urusaro International Women Film Festival is a Rwandan women’s film festival. It was originally started in 2015 by a Rwandan group of women filmmakers. Organized by Ciné femmes Rwanda, it is intended to bring together and empower women filmmakers.

Participants from different African Countries including Rwanda, Uganda, Soudan, Senegal, Cameroun, Togo, Bourkina Faso, Benin ad South Africa are expected to attend the festival and to showcase their talents.

Speaking to the media during a recent press conference, Florianne Kaneza, Executive Director of Urusaro Women Film Festival said that participants from East African Countries (EAC) will showcase Short Fiction Films, and will discuss on the industry development through different organized panel discussions.

The festival will also coincide with other activities including a tour to Nyanza Cultural Museum, located in the Southern Province as well as the celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child.

The films under this festival, will be showcased at every evening at the Francophone Cultural Centre of Rwanda according to Kaneza.

Specialty of the festival

The 7^th Urusaro International Women Film Festival’s specialty is that everyone with the interest, regardless of professionalism, will participate in showcasing talents in cinema during the week-long session to take place in Car Free Zone, Kigali City.

Jacqueline Murekeyisoni, Founder and Executive Director of Ciné Femmes Rwanda, said that there is a significant progress in promotion of women in the cinema industry in Rwanda, because they no longer have fear to be leaders and decision makers.

“We are happy to see the industry developing and, we must work hard to achieve more goals. We are lucky as Televisions are emerging and the budget allocated to cinema was also topped up,” she said.
