New water proofing product to prevent humidity in Rwanda’s buildings

Local Construction Company of Engineers, THM Construction Rwanda has introduced a new technology to prevent humidity among the new buildings in Rwanda.

Dubbed ‘Xypex Crystalline Technology’, it is meant to increase durability of the buildings through the reduction of humidity density in construction materials.

Ir. Celestin Ndayishimiye, the member of THM Construction Rwanda explains that they apply water proofing system to protect humidity and increase durability of the building.

Ndayishimiye was speaking to the media on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 in Kigali during a one-day seminar on Xypex Crystalline Technology organised by THM Construction.

“We have applied the technology in Ethiopia and in the East Africa as these countries have huge quantity of humidity, it was very successful and now Xypex is in Kigali,” he said.

Ir. Celestin said that humidity in the buildings is caused by bad selection of construction materials and weather conditions.

He said that construction materials such as sand and cement should be scientifically tested in laboratory. “Between 50 and 55 percent of our soil is characterized by humidity, Xypex is there to find solutions of all these issues,” Ndayishimiye said.

In the 1980s, the weather conditions were stable and could not pose huge humidity as it happens nowadays according to experts.

Matthew Garrad, an official from Xypex UK Ltd said that this product has been in use since 50 years ago and has shown positive impacts.
