The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza, on Saturday, April 16, reminded police officers set to be deployed under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) to maintain high standards of discipline and professionalism to uphold the Rwandan image.

The 240 officers constitute Rwanda Formed Police Unit-One (RWAFPU-1) contingent, the seventh rotation operating in Malakal, Upper Nile State.

The contingent commanded by Senior Superintendent of Police (SP) Prudence Ngendahimana will replace RWAFPU1-VI headed by Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Faustin Kalimba.

While addressing the officers at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru, IGP Munyuza challenged the officers to be committed to their peacekeeping duty.

“You will be representing RNP and your country, Rwanda and you were prepared for this international duty. Focus on executing your mission efficiently with discipline, team work, honour, resilience and professional character to uphold the Rwandan image,” IGP Munyuza said.

He further urged the officers to respect and support each other as well as other peacekeepers, add value to the UNMISS mandate as well as the people of South Sudan.

The contingent is expected to depart this Sunday, April 17, for a one-year tour-of-duty.

RWAFPU-1 is one of the two Rwanda Formed Police Unit contingents deployed in South Sudan.

Rwanda FPU-3 operates in the capital, Juba.
