2nd Batch of KOICA Scholarship Program for Master’s Degree and PhD for 2022-2023 has opened Applications for 7 Additional Courses

Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the premier grant aid agency of the Korean government, has announced the opening of applications for 7 extra courses in the Master’s degree and PhD scholarship program for the year 2022-2023 after closing the first batch of applications.

The additional scholarship programs include 5 Master’s degree in the fields of Social Economy, Control of Infectious Diseases, Digital Transformation, Technology, Response to Climate Change, and Applied Artificial Intelligence (Major in Digital Innovation) with 2 PhD programs in Response to Climate Change, and Applied Artificial Intelligence (Major in Digital Innovation) courses only.

Applicants must be public servants with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in their field of study, holding a bachelor’s degree from recognized institutions, be officially nominated by the government of Rwanda and must not have participated in KOICA scholarship program or any of the Korean Government’s scholarship program before. Applicants who obtained their master’s degree through KOICA SP or any other Korean Government’s scholarship program are eligible to apply if only applying for a PhD program.

The scholarship covers full tuition fees for the whole program, settlement allowance, accommodation, monthly allowance, insurance, extracurricular activities, a scholarship completion grant and an economy class round-trip airfare.

The deadline for the application is May 06, 2022 by which all applicants must have submitted all the required documents along with the recommendation letter from HEC. Completed applications must be submitted through the HEC’s website (https://mis.hec.gov.rw/system-login). After successful application, KOICA in coordination with each university offering the program will initiate its own vetting process to select the scholarship beneficiaries.

To ensure that all interested candidates can apply, KOICA will organize an online briefing session on the 22 April, 2022 to provide detailed explanation on the eligibility, requirements, and the application deadline. Since 1991, KOICA has been implementing its grant aid programs in Rwanda, disbursing about USD 150 million through various projects and capacity building programs. KOICA Rwanda Office was officially opened in 2011. KOICA currently has over 10 on-going projects in Rwanda in education, agriculture and ICT sectors. With the outbreak of COVID-19, KOICA has also supported the GoR in response to the pandemic by providing a mobile testing vehicle, walk-through testing booths and personal protective equipment (PPE) worth about USD 1 million.
