Rubavu: The majority of the citizens got two doses of Covid-19 vaccines

Over eighty percent of Rubavu residents have completed two doses of Covid-19 vaccines as the booster jab campaign is also under progress.

Some citizens who spoke to The Inspirer said they were voluntarily vaccinated as they understood the importance of the move following the spread of the pandemic that hampered different life perspectives.

 Patrice Ishimwe, one of the citizens from Gisenyi sector in Rubavu district have got two doses of the vaccine and a booster jab.

He said however that not all human bodies resist the injections following that some still fear to get vaccinated.

“There are three months since I completed all the tree vaccines. For sure the vaccine has pain and people have different body immunity to resist its side effects. Some citizens still have the mindset that the vaccine is a satanic ‘666’ symbol, which is not true.”  Ishimwe said.

Isaac Mugabonake, another citizen who got two doses of Covid-19 vaccine said that it is very important because it prevents them from being infected.

“I know that the vaccine protects people and we accept to be vaccinated to continue our activities.” He added.

Esperance Nikuze, a mother of three children from Gisenyi sector, Rubavu district said that people who were vaccinated do not get sick and advises others to understand the role of the vaccines.

“We all faced challenges due to the impacts of the lockdown before the vaccine introduction, but with the move to vaccinate people all the businesses are now operating, so the vaccines are important.” Nikuze said.

According to Rubavu district’s mayor, Ildephonse Kambogo, much effort was injected to help people get the second dose of the vaccine.

“We were still mobilizing people to get the second dose and a big number of citizens are having the booster jab.” Kambogo said.

He said that only a few people who denied the vaccines due to religious beliefs are being educated to understand why vaccination is important.

“We had had 25 people who denied the vaccines but we kept educating them and some were vaccinated.” He said.

He thanks the citizens for their role and efforts in combatting covid-19 pandemic, pledging them the support to help them return to the new normal.
