Kagame commissions 436 new police officers, calls for discipline and professionalism

President Paul Kagame has commissioned 436 newly trained Assistant Inspectors of Police (AIP) into the Rwanda National Police, urging them to uphold discipline, integrity and professionalism as they take on national service responsibilities.

The ceremony took place on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at the Police Training School in Gishari, Rwamagana District, and was attended by senior security officials, development partners and international guests from several countries, underscoring Rwanda’s growing cooperation in security and law enforcement.

The event coincided with the 25th anniversary of the Rwanda National Police, adding symbolic weight to the commissioning of the new cohort.

According to Police Training School Commandant Rafiki Mujiji, the 436 graduates completed a one-year training programme that began on July 15, 2025. The cohort includes 327 men and 109 women drawn from diverse professional and institutional backgrounds.

The graduates were grouped into five categories: 124 university graduates from the Police Higher Institute in Musanze; 172 serving junior officers (including 163 Rwandans and nine officers from Seychelles); 86 civilian recruits; 50 officers from sister security institutions, including 30 from the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) and 20 from the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB); and four officers who underwent advanced training in Singapore and Egypt.

Officials said the officers were equipped with modern policing skills, leadership capacity and strong ethical values intended to strengthen operational efficiency and public service delivery.

“Following the assessments conducted and the commitment they demonstrated throughout training, we are confident they will execute their duties with professionalism and dedication,” said CP Mujiji.

He credited the continued transformation of the institution to strong national leadership and sustained investment in police capacity building, which has improved both infrastructure and training standards.

He also thanked parents and families for their support throughout the officers’ training period, noting that their encouragement played a key role in shaping their discipline and commitment.

The newly commissioned officers were urged to remain steadfast in professionalism, accountability and ethical conduct as they begin their duties in safeguarding national security and public order.
