Thrilling battles and Rwandan pride mark day 6 of UCI Road World Championships in Kigali

The sixth day of the UCI Road World Championships 2025 in Kigali delivered another unforgettable spectacle filled with surprises, endurance, and fierce competition.

Riders faced one of the event’s most challenging segments — the cobbled climb of Kimihurura, famously known as Côte de Kimihurura.

The week-long championship, running from September 21 to 28, has brought together cyclists from 108 nations, including a record 36 African countries — the highest continental participation in the history of the tournament.

Rwanda’s young riders cross the finish line

Team Rwanda proudly celebrated the performance of Moise Ntirenganya and Samuel Niyonkuru, who successfully completed their respective races on Friday.

Ntirenganya, 18, representing Rwanda in the men’s junior road race, finished 86th after completing all eight laps of the 119.3 km course. His teammate Niyonkuru showcased determination in the Under-23 category, bravely conquering the demanding 164.6 km route.

International victories and fierce showdowns

The day’s events thrilled thousands of spectators who lined Kigali’s streets. In the morning, England’s Harry Hudson captured gold in the men’s junior category, completing the 119.3 km race in 2 hours, 55 minutes, and 19 seconds.

Later in the afternoon, Italy’s Lorenzo Finn, also 18, triumphed in the Under-23 men’s race, clinching gold with an impressive time of 3 hours, 57 minutes, and 27 seconds.
