“Safeguarding the Internet Ensures a Better Quality of Life” – Mfitumukiza

As Safer Internet Day 2024 unfolds, the Internet Society Rwanda Chapter (ISOC Rwanda) is actively engaging students, parents, and the community of G.S Kibungo in Ntarama sector, Bugesera district, emphasizing the importance of responsible internet usage in daily life.

Beathe Tuyambaze, Headteacher of G.S Kibungo, expressed gratitude for the internet infrastructure provided by ISOC Rwanda, describing it as a vital tool for enhancing educational quality.

“Our teachers utilize it for research to enrich lessons, while our students explore a wealth of knowledge online. We urge everyone to prioritize safe internet practices for our collective development,” she remarked.

Tuyambaze was speaking on February 16, 2024, during the ongoing celebrations of the Safer Internet Day 2024.

Highlighting the success of the school’s initiatives, the Director of Discipline at G.S Kibungo reported a significant increase in safe internet usage among students and teachers. “The Safer Internet Club, with membership soaring from 60 to 1000, stands as a testament to the growing awareness and commitment to online safety,” he said.

One student from the Safer Internet Club shared their positive experiences, particularly utilizing the digital library for knowledge exploration.

Emmanuel Mfitumukiza, Chairperson of ISOC Rwanda, underscored the importance of social media use, advocating for responsible engagement to maximize its benefits.

The theme of Safer Internet Day, “Promoting Safe Internet Usage in Our Everyday Life,” underscores the need for community-wide collaboration to cultivate a generation of responsible Internet users and foster quality education.

Mfitumukiza elaborated on the theme, emphasizing the opportunities presented by the internet for daily use, highlighting its role in shaping responsible internet behavior and advancing educational standards.

“Safeguarding the internet ensures a better quality of life and enhances people’s security,” emphasized Mfitumukiza, further reinforcing the significance of online safety.

Emmanuel Mfitumukiza, Chairperson of ISOC Rwanda, emphasizes the critical role of digital literacy in shaping a safer online environment and empowering individuals to harness the full potential of the internet for personal and societal development.

Commending ISOC Rwanda’s efforts, Godfrey Musoni, Ntarama Sector Education Inspector, praised the organization’s contribution to enhancing digital literacy and technology in the community. “Notably, the implementation of smart classrooms has led to notable improvements in students’ academic performance,” Musoni remarked.

Safer Internet Day serves as a crucial reminder of the collective responsibility to promote responsible online behavior, ensuring a safer and more enriching digital experience for all.

This year, ISOC Rwanda is celebrating this day in its 4 partner schools in Bugesera district from February 6th to 24th, 2024.
