Rwanda Parliament Speaker re-elected Liberal Party President

Speaker of Parliament Donatille Mukabalisa was Sunday re-elected the president of the Liberal Party (PL).

She was elected during the 8th PL National Congress held in Kigali.

She garnered 482 votes (99.6 %) of 484 members who voted.

Theogene Munyangeyo was elected as the 1st Vice President garnering 445 ( 91.9 %) of members who voted.

Epimaque Twagirimana, was elected the 2nd vice president and secured 456 or 94.2 % of 484 members who voted.

Adrie Umuhire was elected the secretary general of the party after garnering 95.5 % votes.

Phanuel Murenzi was elected as treasurer of the Liberal party at 90.9 % votes.

“PL will continue to play a big  role in sustaining what was achieved after 1994 Genocide against the Tutsis in, strengthening peace and security, strengthening the unity of Rwandans, especially through Ndi Umunyarwanda programme which is the pillar of good governance, development and welfare,” Mukabalisa said after being re-elected.

She said that there is need for collaboration among the members for more achievements.

“We should cooperate, take firm measures, we have to be together, put our efforts together and promote Rwandan spirit. We have to prepare our future today to be able to have a developed country free from divisionism and hatred,” she noted.

She urged members to have discipline as a foundation of good leadership.

Who is Mukabalisa?

Born in July 1960, Honorable Mukabalisa Donatille, is the current Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of Rwanda.

From 1981 to 1998, she worked for the United Nations Development Program in Kigali in various positions.

From July 2000 to 2003, she was a Member of the Rwanda National Transitional Assembly and Deputy Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Economy and Trade.

In the parliamentary elections of 2003 she was elected Member of the Chamber of Deputies on the list of the Liberal Party and was elected Deputy Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Political Affairs and Gender.

Since October 2011, she was a Senator (Upper Chamber) and she was elected by senators as Deputy Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Political Affairs and Good Governance.

After two years in the Senate, on 4th October 2013 she was elected Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies/Parliament of Rwanda. Hon. Mukabalisa Donatille is also the Chairperson of the Liberal Party.
