Ruhango: Unknown Individuals Cut Off and Stole a Farmer’s Cow Tail

In Ruhango District, in Ruhango Sector, Munini Cell, Ruhuha Village, unknown individuals took advantage of the night to cut off and steal the tail of a cow belonging to a resident named Mfituwampaye Aloys. The cow had been provided to him under the Girinka program.

The incident was discovered on the morning of October 27, 2024, when Mfituwampaye woke up to find his cow’s tail had been cut, and it was bleeding heavily.

Ruhango Sector Executive Secretary, Kayitare Wellars, confirmed the incident to IGIHE, stating that they were alerted by the affected resident. “The resident woke up and found his cow’s tail cut off. However, he only realized it late, as he initially didn’t notice any problem with the cow. He discovered it when he went to let it graze. Local authorities immediately went to the scene with investigative teams to examine the situation, and we are currently awaiting the findings of the investigation,” he explained.

Kayitare added that due to the cow’s severe blood loss and weakened condition, they decided to sell and slaughter it, and authorities have pledged to replace it with another cow so that the farmer can continue raising livestock.

Aside from the tail being cut off and stolen, the owner reported no other damage, though it remains unclear what motivated the perpetrators. The resident has called on authorities to conduct an in-depth investigation to identify those responsible for this act.
