Gasabo: Child Kills Classmate Over a Mango
By The Inspirer.
Two students at Ngara Primary School (EP Ngara) fought over a mango in class, leading to the tragic death of one of them. Both children, aged around 12, were students at the school located in Birembo Village, Ngara Cell, Bumbogo Sector, in Gasabo District.
According to reports, the incident occurred during their mid-morning break on Monday, October 28, 2024. The two fought in class over a mango, and one of them collapsed and was unable to get back up, later being pronounced dead.
Kigali City spokesperson Emma Claudine Ntirenganya explained the circumstances surrounding the death: “The children were at school during break time. One of them had brought a mango and placed it in their bag. When the other took it, the owner slapped him, and in self-defense, he punched back twice. Immediately after, the other child collapsed and couldn’t stand up.”
“The other children quickly alerted the teachers, who laid him down and called for emergency services to take him to the hospital. However, upon their arrival, he had already passed away.”
Emma Claudine added that an investigation by Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) is underway, including tests to determine if the child’s death was due to the punches or if an underlying health issue was involved. Those who knew the child say he had no known health problems.
She also urged parents to ensure that the items their children bring to school are appropriate. Following the incident, the child’s body was taken to the hospital for an autopsy.
