Roads construction commencing well in Northern Province

Northern Province is pushing ahead road construction works in Burera, Musanze, Gicumbi and areas of Rubavu in Western Province.

The roads are being constructed  in line with the pledges of His Excellency President of the Republic Paul Kagame to the citizens of Northern and Western province during his visit and the Presidential campaigns in July last year.

Introduced by expropriating neighbouring citizens, construction works also are coupled with electricity installation to lighting the roads which will be completed by  March 31, 2018 according Jean Marie Vianney Gatabazi.

Gatabazi explained to the media over the weekend that they want to deliver the pledges of His Excellency to the citizens.

“We want to expand the Musanze town up to Cyanika, so as our people can do cross border trade and roads construction works in this province are under the pledges of President of the Republic Paul Kagame.”said Gatabazi.

On the side of NPD-COTRACO contractor, the road Base-Butaro is being extended to Cyanika and it is expected to be completed by August 2018.

Other roads which are under construction through this initiative are: Base-Rukomo which is being done by Chinese company (CHIKO), Base-Kiruri on the side of NPD-COTRACO.

Another road which is under the plans of the province is he road Miyove in Gicumbi town and will be constructed coupled with its renovation as the governor explained.

All these activities are surrounding the lake Rugezi and other lakes in Northern Province.

Gatabazi expressed his thanks to His Excellency President of the Republic Paul Kagame saying that “We thank His Excellency Paul Kagame for continuing to  deliver what he promised to the citizens of Northern Province. He pledged to build infrastructures including roads, health facilities, electricity, etc. All of these are already being implemented, the road Base-Butaro-Cyanika is under construction, another one from Base-Kiruri-Miyove-Rukomo to Nyagatare is also progressing,” said Gatabazi.

Over 10 kilometers are actually finished, this is from Rubavu to Musanze district and more roads of 4.5 kilometers are under construction.

The Minister of State in the Ministry of Infrastructure in Charge of Transport, Eng. Jean de Dieu Uwihanganye who had visited to check construction works in the province said the works are progressing very well.

“Time had come for our visit to see the progress of road construction works after our  team that had earlier come for supervision recommended we do since we had problems of the citizens regarding expropriation due to road construction,” said Uwihanganye.

Citizens are now celebrating as they are happy to see efficient roads which will facilitate them in many developmental initiatives such as cross border trade.

Phillipe Kayinamura, 47, is a citizen from Gahunga sector in Burera district. He told The Inspirer that the roads will help them to transport their agriculture produce to the market; as well as reaching health facilities without delaying.

“It is pleasure for us to have roads as we have been struggling to transport our produce to the market. Reaching health hospitals was also difficult,” said Kayinamura.

The pledge of roads and other infrastructures have been in their mind as dreams since 2003 and 2010 during the previous two mandates of His Excellency Paul Kagame.

The construction works of all these infrastructures are expected to end by 2020.
