RIB reveals three suspects accused of fraudulent scams

The Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) has identified three individuals accused of committing fraud-related offenses. The suspects allegedly deceived people by promising them jobs, visas, and other services in exchange for money.

The three suspects—two men and one woman—were shown to the media on March 25, 2025. They are currently detained at the RIB station in Nyarugenge as their case file is being prepared for submission to the prosecution.

Among them is a suspect accused of fraud and unlawfully acquiring assets through deception.

RIB investigations indicate that the suspect had established businesses claiming to help people secure jobs in various sectors, but only after they paid upfront fees—only for them to never receive the promised jobs.

This suspect had also set up three companies: Kora Nawe Ltd, Abanyamwuga, and Gura na Serivisi. These businesses had offices in Nyarugenge, Nyabugogo, and Remera.

Meanwhile, the other two suspects are being investigated for conspiracy to commit fraud and money laundering through deceptive means.

RIB stated that, in addition to money laundering charges, one of the suspects is also accused of sexually exploiting young women and girls by falsely promising them employment.

The suspects were apprehended after collecting approximately 70 million Rwandan Francs through fraudulent schemes.

RIB spokesperson Dr. Murangira B. Thierry urged the public to be cautious and avoid falling victim to fraudsters who promise jobs, visas, and other services in exchange for money.

“I urge Rwandans to be vigilant, especially job seekers. They should be wary of people who make false job promises and always verify the authenticity of any job opportunities before making payments,” he said.

Dr. Murangira emphasized that RIB remains committed to fighting fraud and will take strong action against individuals and companies that deceive people by promising unrealistic services, particularly those involved in visa and international study scams.

He concluded by stressing that in today’s world, no one should be deceived into giving away their money. “This must stop. In the year 2025, no one should fall victim to fraud and be tricked out of their hard-earned money,” he stated.
