Nyarugenge: Mother goes missing after distributing property to her children

Béatrice Uzamukunda, a 50-year-old resident of Umucyo Village, Kigarama Cell, Gitega Sector in Nyarugenge District, disappeared after calling her three children to discuss the distribution of her property.

According to information obtained by Umuseke, on Thursday, December 26, 2024, the mother of three summoned her children to talk about her assets, including a house, plots of land in Kigali City, and money in various banks.

Reports indicate that after discussing her property with her children verbally, she put everything in writing and left the document in her bedroom before leaving without informing anyone of her destination.

Sources told Umuseke that the family only realized she was gone when the children, noticing she was taking unusually long to wake up, went to check her room and found it empty.

One source said, “The children entered her bedroom and found she had left her ID, mobile phone, and a written document listing all her assets.”

The source added that the decision to talk to her children about her property might have been triggered by a personal issue they couldn’t comprehend, as she was in good health and showed no signs of illness.

Etienne Mugambira, the Executive Secretary of Gitega Sector, confirmed to Umuseke that Uzamukunda left her home at around 7:00 a.m., but her destination remains unknown.

Mugambira noted that Uzamukunda, a medical professional working at Kigali University Teaching Hospital (CHUK), had no known problems at the time of her disappearance.

“We are using various social media platforms that connect many local leaders and citizens to spread information about her disappearance,” Mugambira said.

He added that they learned she was not at her family home in Rubavu, where she had traveled before Christmas, nor at her in-laws’ residence.

Uzamukunda, who lost her husband years ago, was left to care for three children. However, local authorities in Gitega Sector clarified that only two of the children were from her late husband.
